Summer months often finds us out of doors and participating in sports not normally pursued. Minor injuries can occur due to falls, over use of muscles, or exacerbation of arthritic joints.

The rule in treating minor muscle injuries is RICE: Rest, Ice, Compress(ace bandage) and Elevate. Always use ice on an injury the first 72 hrs after that you can use heat if needed.

If you have sore joints, ice ten minutes before the activity and after the activity. This works very well for runners.

A somewhat unknown remedy for bruises is arnica salve. Arnica will help absorb the blood and ease the soreness. Use it three times a day for a week. You can find it at most health stores.

And of course, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Divide your weight by two. That is how many ounces of water you need without exercise. Add more depending on the level of activity.

Dear Diary,It’s day 5 of the cleanse and thgins continue to go well I am okay with getting up at 4:45 am because I feel good as I do the morning routine, feel productive before I leave the house (food prep and my own prep has improved my multitasking) and it’s a great start to my day. I am feeling full after each meal, and not the heavy oh my gosh did I just eat ALL of that oh, yeah, I have room for dessert full.I was presented with a tough challenge yesterday at work being at my schools and working around everyone’s schedule. I did make sure that I stopped for lunch, but honestly felt rushed to finish so that I could get to a classroom to do an observation for a meeting. It was incredibly frustrating because I was working on a tight timeline and I wanted to maintain the frame of mind to take care of myself. In addition, I was called over to my other school to respond to an emergency and found that after a couple of hours of talking with the parent, teacher, and administration I was in the office looking through the candy dishes! One of my bad habits is that I graze those bowls during and after stressful situations. Diary, you would be so proud, I did not eat anything from those dishes! However, I did realize that I was still stressed after the drive home when I walked through the door and saw the almonds and wanted to eat them and a sandwich and some pizza again, my dearest Diary, I resisted the urge and instead began preparing dinner for the evening. When it was time to sit and eat, I found that I not only felt less stressed, but I was also not as hungry as I thought.It’s the little thgins that speak volumes awareness is key!Well, Diary, it’s time for kickball and our team’s theme tonight is knee socks woohoo!
